Sexual Abuse and Teenssexual abused teen

Childhood sexual abuse is epidemic. Before age 18, one out of 4 girls and one out of six boys are estimated to be survivors of sexual assault in the United States. Teens who have been victimized often suffer from academic challenges, substance abuse, delinquency, crime and risks associated with teen pregnancy. This workshop will examine the vulnerabilities, risks and steps towards prevention of teen sexual violence.

Objectives:

  • Name the specific physical and behavioral signs of sexual abuse in teens
  • Describe the neurobiology of trauma and sexual abuse
  • Discuss the impact of teen sexual abuse on sexual risk-taking behaviors and sexual re-victimization
  • Identify who are likely to be at-risk perpetrators of teen sexual abuse
  • List steps towards prevention of teen sexual abuse
  • Provide resources and information on supporting survivors of adolescent sexual violence
